Now, while these images are not all technically “documentary” style because they were captured during more formal family sessions, the candid aspect of them lends itself to that term. These types of images, in my opinion are just as important as the lovely, posed, camera aware photos. These types of images show real moments, and particularly with the little ones, real emotions. Yes, I even love the meltdowns and tantrums, those images are a record of your child at that time in their life. All the personality and drama included! So yes, I do call myself a documentary family photographer, in conjunction with posed family photographer.
