Hi internet! So I’m a family photographer in Palm Springs. My favorite type of family photography is a more documentary style. Don’t worry, I always capture the wonderful “camera aware” groupings as well, the ones you’ll use for your holiday cards and maybe even enlarge and hang on your wall. But the more documentary style captures really make my heart sing. In my opinion you will look back on those and they will remind you of EXACTLY who you were, or who your kids were at that particular age. You will cherish those photographs just as much as the beautiful images of everyone looking at the camera and smiling. To me, they have equal value for vastly different reasons.

These two images I’m sharing today are the same image, one rendered in color and the other in black and white. I CANNOT decide which I love more. I love the color because of the wonderfully vibrant colors in the girls dresses and their sweet rosy cheeks. But I love the black and white because it truly isolates their unique personalities. The sweet little pout and clasped hands. The the expectant and hopeful gaze. I just don’t know… what do you think? Do you prefer one over the other?
