I give you… The Jacobs family. Three generations in one family session. My HEART!! What a vibant, fun and joyful family they were. I met them all for the first time in the parking lot at the part ahead of their session and they immediately welcomed me into their family as though I’d always known them. I love that, it makes it so much easier for me to capture some really REAL and heartfelt interactions between family members. And these guys did not disappoint!
We started out with some standard “posed” images in the pretty shaded areas of the park. Then as we meandered through the park looking for a bit of variety… thats when the magic really happens. Truly, its the in-between moments that really make my heart sing. Check out some of the sweet photos of the kiddos posed on the rock and park bench. Just delightful!

In a world where family photos often lean toward perfection and pose, documentary-style sessions offer something far richer: truth. These images honor the ordinary moments that actually define a family—the way a grandfather’s hands steady a toddler on his lap, the sun-lit chaos of cousins laughing on a park bench, the quiet pause as a child studies a leaf or examines a found treasure. Instead of arranging and directing every expression, documentary photography allows genuine personalities to appear on their own timeline. The result is not just a gallery of smiling faces, but a collection of memories as they were lived—sun-drenched, unscripted, layered with emotion, and deeply rooted in connection.
This approach to family storytelling becomes even more meaningful across multiple generations. When grandparents, parents, and children move freely, laugh freely, explore freely, their relationships reveal themselves naturally. A held hand, a lifted child, a citrus grove discovery—these are the gestures that define family legacy far more than a perfectly aligned pose ever could. Documentary family photography preserves the truth of who you are right now, in the place you love, with the people who built your story. Years from now, these photographs will not only show what you looked like, but how it felt to belong to one another in this moment.
